Cooking classes
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- April Hamilton will lead four cooking classes for Girl Scouts from 10 a.m. to noon, 1 to 3 p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m. March 3 and from 1 to 3 p.m. March 4 at Village Chapel in Kanawha City for members of the Black Diamond Council Girl Scouts.
The fee is $47 per Scout or $10 for adults and includes instruction, workshop materials, a patch and a meal. Contact Scout leaders to register.
Hamilton will also offer Meatless Monday class at 6 p.m. on March 12 at Ferguson Bath Kitchen Lighting, 160 Spring St. A Spring Fling class at 6 p.m. April 23 will feature a five-course meal made of many locally sourced products. Cost for both classes is $85 each and covers instruction, hands-on preparation and the meal.

Red Carpet Event for Children's Therapy Clinic
Walk the red carpet at the "Night with the Stars Oscar Gala" to benefit Children's Therapy Clinic at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The event at the Charleston Embassy Suites will include the broadcast of the Academy Awards on a big screen, red carpet entrance and paparazzi, hors d'oeuvres, legal beverages and desserts.

West Virginia State University Extension Service will hold a workshop on backyard blackberry production at the Putnam County Valley Park Community Center from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Helpful hint
Peeling kiwi often involves removing more flesh than necessary and tearing the flesh remaining. Try cutting off each end of the kiwi, then gently work a teaspoon just inside the flesh to loosen the skin all the way around. Push out a skinned, smooth, whole kiwi.
