ELIZABETH, W.Va. -- A former Wirt County teacher will serve 15 days in jail for embezzling from a band boosters club.
Christy Wilson also must perform up to 300 hours of community service and make restitution of almost $9,000 to the Wirt County Board of Education.
The 39-year-old Wilson pleaded guilty to embezzlement in December. The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reports that Wirt County Circuit Judge Robert Waters sentenced Wilson on Tuesday.
Wilson told the judge that she took $3,600 from the Wirt County Band Boosters Club and used the money to pay bills. She was the club's treasurer at the time.
Prosecutors say almost $9,000 was taken.
Wilson formerly taught at the Wirt County Primary Center and was a softball coach. The school board fired her in January.
