Jim Barach's Outlook from the Storm Team Weather Center
Warm Thursday...Cooler Friday & Saturday...
An approaching cold front will push in much warmer air for Thursday. With mostly cloudy skies it should stay dry and the high temperature will make it all the way up to 70 degrees. Tonight, ahead of the front skies will be cloudy with scattered showers and possibly some thunderstorms. The overnight low temperature will stay at a mild 45 degrees. After Thursday's mild day, the cold front will move through at night which will usher in showers and thunderstorms early Friday. The high temperature on Friday will make it to an early 50 degrees then will fall quickly once the cold front passes. The
temperature will tumble which will cause the rain showers to change over to snowflakes at night.
The weekend will start with the cold air mass still in place. Saturday will be cloudy with snow showers from an upslope event where northwesterly winds push the cold and moist air up the mountain slopes and squeeze out snow showers. There will be accumulations in the mountains but just a dusting is expected for lowlands with a high temperature of 37 degrees. High pressure will move back in on Sunday which will bring back partly cloudy
skies and dry conditions. The high temperature will warm to 49 degrees.
Monday will be partly cloudy and warm ahead of the next approaching cold front. The high temperature will warm all the way to 62 degrees. The cold front will move through on Tuesday which will make for mostly cloudy skies with rain showers starting out and changing to snowflakes late. The high temperature will make it to an early 48 degrees and fall through the day. Cold air will still be in place on Wednesday which could lead to another upslope event for mostly cloudy skies and snow showers. The high temperature will drop to 38 degrees.
Thursday will be partly cloudy after a few lingering morning snow showers. The high temperature will warm slightly to 40 degrees. Friday will be partly cloudy with high pressure moving back in across the region. The high temperature will warm to 48 degrees. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with rain showers as another cold front moves into the region. The warm air ahead of the front will push the temperature up to 52 degrees.
A quick look back at yesterday's forecast shows that skies were mostly cloudy overnight and dry as forecast. The low temperature fell to 39 degrees which was one degree cooler than the forecast low temperature of 40 degrees. Wednesday was mostly cloudy with some scattered showers as expected. The high temperature looks like it will finish just shy of the forecast high temperature of 62 degrees.
Tonight: Skies will be cloudy with some rain showers and possibly a thunderstorm. The overnight low temperature will stay at a mild 45 degrees.
Thursday: Skies will be mostly cloudy but dry ahead of an approaching cold front. The warm air ahead of the front will push the high temperature all the way up to 70 degrees.
Friday: The cold front will move through during the early morning hours which will make for showers and thunderstorms. The high temperature will make it to an early 50 degrees then will fall through the day. Rain showers could change over to snowflakes at night.
Saturday: Cold air will still be in place which will make for an upslope event with northwesterly winds pushing cold air up the mountain slopes which will squeeze out snow showers. There will be accumulations over the mountains with just scattered snow showers over the valleys. The high temperature will only make it to 37 degrees.
Sunday: High pressure will move back in across the region which will bring back partly cloudy skies and dry conditions. The high temperature will warm to 49 degrees.
Monday: An approaching cold front will make for partly cloudy skies and dry conditions to start the work week. The warm air ahead of the front will push the high temperature up to 62 degrees.
Tuesday: The cold front will bring mostly cloudy skies with rain showers that could change over to snowflakes in the cold air Tuesday night. The high temperature will make it to an early 48 degrees and will fall through the day.
Wednesday: The cold air behind the front will help generate some upslope snow showers on Wednesday under mostly cloudy skies. The high temperature will cool to 38 degrees.
Thursday: There will be a few lingering morning snow showers on Thursday which will taper off to partly cloudy skies later in the day. The high temperature will warm a bit to 40 degrees.
Friday: High pressure will move back in across the region which will make for partly cloudy skies and dry conditions. The high temperature will warm to 48 degrees.
Saturday: Another cold front will move into the region for mostly cloudy skies along with rain showers. The high temperature will warm to 52 degrees ahead of the front.
One Final Note: Today's high temperature made it into the 60s in Charleston. That is the first time it has been that warm this month since way back on February 1st! Since then it has taken three weeks to see the mercury hit that number again.
